Our Goal

Pink Zoning Detroit seeks to transform complex land use regulations into a positive force for the revitalization of our city.

Funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the project will identify, and seek to implement, a number of agile, creative, regulatory changes which support high-quality place-making and drive economic development.

Ultimately, Pink Zoning Detroit will pursue a ‘lean’ ordinance, widely applicable to the city's neighborhood commercial corridors, which establishes Detroit as a pioneer of innovative urban land use regulation in the United States.

“You can create a great place, and you won't have to go through months of red tape.”

— MAURICE COX, PLANNING DIRECTOR, CITY OF DETROIT, in the wall street journal
